Designated Pilot Examiners (DPE)

What is a Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE)?

A DPE is a designee of the Federal Aviation Administration with the authority to grant you a pilot's license! Very important people indeed!

Where do I find one?

New Flyers Association has a list of DPEs that we work with, who are familiar with our aircraft. You as the prospective pilot, are free to choose anyone you wish. You will need to talk to your instructor before you select a DPE to make sure you can test with them though, as there are some FAA limitations!

The FAA provides a web based search to locate DPEs for testing here. Ohio is part of the "Great Lakes" Region, and there are three FAA Offices. KOSU is located within the "GL07 - Columbus Flight Standards District Office". The other two are "GL05 - Cincinnati Flight Standards District Office" and "GL25 - Cleveland Flight Standards District Office".
